I'm new to this forum (which by the way is the finest collection of skating information available anywhere on the 'net cuz I've looked high and low), and I have questions about the skates you train and compete on. My son currently skates TRS with Fiziks, Bones Swiss and 9mm (for park use). Have any of you made extreme modifications to your skates, such as cutting or drilling the frames or boots to reduce weight and/or to make the boots more flexible? Has anyone modified wheels by turning them on a lathe, again to make them lighter or more responsive (by reducing the contact patch)? Has anyone repositioned the wheels on their frames, or possibly designed and cut custom frames in a machine shop? Do any of you wear special clothing to cut wind drag? And if so, how well did your modifications work?

i know some street skaters may cut their cuffs( v cut) so they are more flexible (easier for topside grinds) but unless you remove alot of the boot the weight will be about the same.on vert it is best to have the skate quite stiff. with the wheels cutting away to reduce the contact area i'm guessing would weaken the wheels and they may become bumpy to skate on. for ramps the best wheels are cozmo which are definately worth the money. not sure about repositioning wheels but different frames are available with different possitions for wheels (fiziks, conventional, freestyle and hi-lo frames). with clothing as long as it's not really baggy should be fine.
if you try anything you should post up your findings.
