I just read this article from someone on be-mag, looks like there may be no inline street asa comps in 05 due to lack of funding

thanks for the post. that sucks I hope they figure it out. I would miss the street comps....
That really sucsk the street Pro's were cool to roll with at Buffalo, esceilly Ben. That really sucks that there might be no Pro ASA Street, at least the AM circuit will still be alive.
thats a big blow for the sport if that does happen and if it does happen i hope it doesnt make the gap between vert and street even bigger

i think the main reason for this is that there is this "cool" trend of hating all forms of park competitions in the street scene at the moment, lots of pro street guys saying this in public interviews too, so its kinda no wonder that noone in the industry is backing asa cos they want allt he street skaters to like them since there are more of them, and if they associate with anyhting Park then they will seem like "sell outs". for it all to work i guess we just have to wait for this phase of street skaters randomly hating on this to pass. im obviously not saying ALL street skaters are like this, but a few individuals in high up places are sending out this message to kids. then hopfully a few companies within the sport will start backing ASA again and giving them some funding.
if you think about it, the asa kinda did sell out. i mean we got companies liek yohoo, corn nuts, toyota, red bull, uni-glo (japanese) and paul mitchell for sponsors.
I mean come on, rolling being backed by chocolate milk, corn snacks, and salon shampoo. That's the same as skateboarding being backed by cocoa puffs, hot pockets, doritos, and pretty much everything under the sun. so it looks like the asa did sell out.
BUT...the asa does tend to attract bigger crouds than events like IMYTA...although the crowd at IMYTA usually tends to be guys, most of which roll; whereas the asa attracts people of all walks of life who don't know the difference between a fishbrain or a makio.

getting sponsors from outside the sport is not selling out, its called keeping companies alive. and the fact the asa is watched by non rollerbladers is so important in attracting new poeple to the sport which is what will ultimatly keep the sport alive.
if you were offered a deal from yohoo which meant you didnt have to work and you could just skate, are you gtelling me you wud say no and go back to your job at mcdonalds? its not selling out being able to skate more...
